{"id":87,"date":"2012-05-26T20:07:19","date_gmt":"2012-05-26T20:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/?p=87"},"modified":"2012-05-30T08:01:55","modified_gmt":"2012-05-30T08:01:55","slug":"lagavulin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/?p=87","title":{"rendered":"Lagavulin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today is day one officially of the Feis Ile ( Islay Festival for 2012) \u00a0and with this in mind it&#8217;s down the road to Lagavulin on another cracking day although there is a slight bit of breeze in the air which helps keep it artificially cooler.\r\nWe clear out of our B&amp;B in Bruichladdich as we take over our holiday cottage for the week so it&#8217;s all the bags into the back of the truck and with the additional three people we have to put a couple of bags on the roof. \u00a0 \u00a0 My recommendation for a vehicle for the festival is a Landrover 110 County with all the seats in the back, you&#8217;ll always have space for something or someone else in the back.\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/BowmoreFeisIle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-88\" style=\"border-style: initial; border-color: initial; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"No unauthorised usage.\" src=\"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/BowmoreFeisIle-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/BowmoreFeisIle-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/BowmoreFeisIle.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\r\n<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However first stop is to Bowmore (it&#8217;s enroute anyway) as they&#8217;ve started selling their Feis Ile this morning. \u00a0It comes in at a reasonably prices \u00a350, so with the assistance of Smudge I buy two, followed by Al and Wolfie who also buy two.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Pic-a-day-0526.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-95 aligncenter\" title=\"No unauthorised usage.\" src=\"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Pic-a-day-0526-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Pic-a-day-0526-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Pic-a-day-0526.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s then of course down to Lagavulin, which upon arrival there&#8217;s a huge queue of people waiting patiently for their turn to be served at the visitor centre which means that it&#8217;s the queue for Lagavulin&#8217;s Feis Ile. \u00a0The girls in the ticket office tell us it&#8217;s a two hour wait \u00a0as people are keen to get their hands on a bottle as it&#8217;s a limited number of bottles (300 I recall, but glad to be corrected). \u00a0 We&#8217;re booked on a Masterclass with Geordie Crawford who is the distillery Manager (and a very lovely and honest lady) at 1pm so the bottles not that important to us so we head down to the loading area where all the activities are taking place.\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-94\" title=\"No Authorised Use\" src=\"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/LagvulinStilllock-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/LagvulinStilllock-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/LagvulinStilllock.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There&#8217;s fresh seafood, live music, the local church have a stall selling cakes and proper scottish soup (it was lovely ladies as was the cakes &#8211; \u00a0buy it when it comes out.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Going back to taste the others after that 21 year old just made them feel sharp. \u00a0 \u00a0The 21 year old is on the &#8216;to be bought&#8217; 30 minutes or so she still managed to get me a bottle. \u00a0 \u00a0 Wolfgang from our group joined the queue when we came out of the masterclass (an hour later) and managed to get the very last bottle, much to the disappointment of the 40 or so people behind him. \u00a0 The last bottle below along with my dram.\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/LagvulinFeisile.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-90\" title=\"The last bottle of Lagavulin Feis Ile 2012.\" src=\"http:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/LagvulinFeisile-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"The last bottle of Lagavulin Feis Ile 2012.\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/LagvulinFeisile-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/craigmcateer.co.uk\/islay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/LagvulinFeisile.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>\r\n<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A cracking day and one we must doff our hat to the folks at Lagavulin, you did us all proud &#8211; a most excellent day of tasting, friendliness and a celebration of one of my favourite drinks.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many thanks must go to Smudge again (I did tell you she doesn&#8217;t like Whisky didn&#8217;t I), well five of us are now obviously over the legal limit to drive so we practice what the Festival is all about; responsible drinking. \u00a0 In this case; we drink, Smudge drives. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0We thank you immensely for this.\r\nHeading back to our new accommodation for the week (An Innis) we pass Heather and Garson who have just arrived on the island and are making a B-line for their session at Lagavulin. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0We later meetup with them at our base camp as they get ready to head out for the Clootie Dumpling Ceilidh which is being held at the Portnahaven community hall. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I purposely said &#8216;they&#8217; as I&#8217;m currently resting my foot as I appear to have sprained it and the thought of walking for 30 minutes and then dancing the night away and then walking the 30 minutes back from where the bus drops us off doesn&#8217;t seem like a good idea. \u00a0 \u00a0 After some ice and warm water treatment for an hour or so it does appear to be easing a little, although it&#8217;s still bloody sore when I stand on it. \u00a0 \u00a0Never mind;
